Our products (with the exception of Smiths Leather Balm) are custom made in the east Tennessee Mountains.  We use full grain vegetable tanned  leather (excepting the canvas products):  All leather will have slight differences in the hides.  The full grain part of the hide is the outer most part of the hide.  This is the strongest and most durable part of the hide.  Because that part of the hide is the outer most portion there will likely be some artifacts in the hide, proof that the hide has not been sanded or processed, which removes some of the strongest part of the hide.  The vegetable tanning method to tan a full grain hide primarily uses tree bark or other plant material which contain natural tannins.  The vegetable tanning method produces superior leather, that is stronger and more durable.
